Garden Babecue and Genjek Dance

Genjek Dance.
It is an entertainment increasingly popular with the Balinese,
Originally it was practiced on the northern and eastern part of Bali island, where
it was known under the name of Cakepung Dance.

Cakepung dance was created by the Balinese poeple of Karangasem
kingdom, the story says: Once upon a time a battle happened in Lombok island, it was between Balinese against the local people of Lombok. Balinese
wanted to dominate the island and gradually successfully defeated the people
of Lombok.

By having a great success to occupy the island, the soldiers of the kingdom conducted victory party by having
an alcoholic drink (palm wine),under the influence of this drink ,they were
Spontaneously singing and dancing,
the local people felt frightened facing this situation of the party and the
kept them selves away from the occupied territory.

Basically the movement of genjek dance was taken from the traditional cakepung
dance, in which it is accompanied by a fusion vocal and instrumental music,
very basic and simple in sound, having its root purely
vocal sound fused together by a group of singers. The cohesive and dynamic sound has made this dance popular among the Balinese people.
